For 37 years the northern coastal waters of British Columbia have been protected from oil tanker traffic. This ban is now under threat.

Plans to build pipelines and a supertanker port in BC to service the Alberta Tar Sands are moving forward with support from the BC and Canadian Governments.

But there is still time to save our coast.

Dogwood Initiative is distributing 200,000 removable decals. These decals can be applied to most smooth surfaces including plastic, glass and metal. Once applied, each decal will help spread the word about oil spills from proposed Tar Sands Tankers on the coast of BC’s Great Bear Rainforest.

The 3,000-square-foot space at 18th Avenue and 152nd Street in South Surrey has been covered with a growing surface that will be planted with more than 10,000 plants of 120 different species: ground covers, large perennials, shrubs and even small trees.

Conceptualized and executed by Green Over Grey I think the project ads a lot to the neighbourhood. It is projects like this that bring individuality back to a community.

Purchase heritage vegetable, flower and herb seeds, fruit trees and nursery plants. Master Gardeners will be on site to answer your gardening questions. Visit the heirloom gardens, tour the 1894 farmhouse with costumed guides, and sample fresh baked goods from the woodstove. Kids can enjoy seedy crafts and games!
